About

A little more Jess.

Design started as the thing I did instead of the thing I was supposed to be doing. I grew up in Shanghai painting and doing calligraphy, convinced I'd end up an artist, until I found UX and realized I liked problems with constraints better than a blank canvas.

Today I design enterprise tools and AI products, identity software, trade compliance, one civic seed library that won an award, and most of my job turns out to be subtraction. I like the work best when it starts as a mess and ends looking obvious, and the best compliment I get isn't "this looks great," it's "oh, that makes sense."
